through quality and functional education.
Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls was established in 1991 to promote the advancement of women through quality and functional education.
The college is a supportive community of individuals with a passion for excellence. It offers a balanced education which develops students’ personal qualities to enable them cope with life in universities both in and outside Nigeria.
The exclusive nature of the college (girls only) is aimed at reducing the possibility of bias in the choice of subjects and careers. It raises expectations, develops a wider variety of leadership opportunities and balances a disciplined work routine with an enjoyable social life outside the classroom.
To offer the girl-child qualitative and functional secondary school education.
To inculcate in the girl-child the pursuit of perfection and excellence.
To raise a generation of young women who will respect and uphold the dignity of labour.
To nurture our girls to grow, live and function as unique and respectable wives and mothers of tomorrow.
The vision of the college is based on the integration and promotion of womanhood into the topmost heights in all aspects of human endeavors through both academic pursuit and moral discipline.
The college runs a six-year programme in two sections: the Junior Secondary School (JSS) and the Senior Secondary School (SSS) in accordance with the National Policy on Education simply described as the 6-3-3-4 system of education.
The curriculum offered is a blend of the British Cambridge and the Nigerian National curricula in a dynamic, inspiring, and well-equipped learning environment which includes project work, field trips, workshops, seminars and conferences.
We offer a warm welcome to you to come and visit our school and experience, at first hand, a school for girls aged 10 -18 that provides a day and boarding school experience that makes young lives extraordinary.
Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls is committed to providing an education designed to enable all girls to discover their strengths and to make the most out of their talents within the school and beyond. When we take a look at a student, we see a person, with innate abilities and potentials; therefore, it is our responsibility to add value by helping them discover their talents and achieve desired academic success. We help our students realise the joy of learning to learn. Prepare to be tested, stretched and inspired.
Vivian Fowler aims to promote all personalities and all talents and interests. Academic study is vitally important to this school, and we expect students to reach for high grades, but our view of education celebrates the creative, physical and spiritual as well as the intellectual. We want girls to graduate from the school with ethical values, we want them to persuaded that they can make a difference in society; we want girls to leave the school having qualities that matter and would be with them for the rest of their lives.
The competitive education system in Nigeria today fosters an environment where expectations of students are enormous and continuous good outcomes are required if a school is to remain viable.
